Where was this filmed ?
Looks like a graveyard?
why are there 2 gg1 locomotives
Great video Don, well done!
Cool
what a great video
I took the amtk National Limited from Pittsburgh to NYPenn in 1976. Equipment was ready for the scrap heap.
Was that your father, Fred, at the end?
Yep!
Was this hillmeade or michealsville road??
Not really sure...
Well I did more research and I found out that this crossing is in elkton Maryland
fantastic footage
Better scan of the PATCO stuff is up, too.
1:40 is the SCL "Champion" with it's Budget Room Coach behind the baggage car and twin Unit Dining car - a solid Florida train.
Fantastic video of a unique part of American railroading history! :D I was just wondering, would it be possible for me to use this footage as part of an upcoming documentary I'm creating about the history of the Budd Metroliner?
Sure. Just acknowledge it's mine.
@@Donoltmann Thank you very kindly, I'll put your name in the credits and provide a link in the description. :)
A better scan has been uploaded here... ua-cam.com/video/UuP9-0nvwc8/v-deo.html
@@Donoltmann Thank you very much for the link, the improved quality is excellent. :)
That moment when the engine wobbled from side to side was really something to see! 😶
The Intermodal Train was the Apollo, the joint N&W/LV effort to compete with the PC's excellent service on the NY-Chicago corridor
Canadian Pacific 1246 is my favorite Canadian Steam Locomotive, I do hope they get it running sometime soon now.
Watching this makes me realize how used to video we’ve become. This is old school film with no sound. A modern cell phone would record clearer video and sound also. Just shows what 50 years can do
....the last 15 years has been amazing enough! 8mm home movies were pretty much it from the 1930s to the 1980s - Super 8 from the mid 1960s, then with sound in the 70s. Video tape after that in improving degrees, but, as you say...
I like the Snow Seinery ❄ 😊
Refilling the loco via firetruck was pretty neat to see.
Why does your clip here sound like the soundtrack to a horror film or video game and the only footage of trains is in the last ten seconds? Thumbs down.
Wow! I didn’t know this had been taken down to single track at one point.
Amtrak Freedom Train
Awesome job
At one time, this was some folks' idea of "taking the train to work".
I love all the heritage paint schemes they used to run.
Watching this is like "The Ring" (2002) meets railfans.
Love ❤️ the sound of the F40 Horn
I remember my dad took me on an Amtrak Metroliner back in 73 or 74 from Philly to DC. Al I remember was some trains had the Amtrak Phase I scheme, and the others still had the silver with red pinstripe Pennsy colors. I distinctly remember the green-tinted windows.
Dude the scoring is terrifying lmao
This is 53 not 52
Everyone has their own opinions, no doubt, but there was alot ( and still is) of hate for the looks of the GE Genesis locomotives. I cannot figure out why? In the original paint scheme like on the Auto Train in this video, how can anyone say those are ugly locomotives? Yup, much different than the F40PH but man I think they were sharp in their original paint as well as the "Heritage" schemes. What cool footage, I love this 1990s era-Amtrak. So much variety, some of it so much different than today yet some of it is still the same! Thank you for posting.

👍
I've seen plenty of trains at 125 mph through Princeton Junction over the years, and more recently 150 mph Acelas. That Metroliner is doing way over 125 if this film is showing actual speed! If my stopwatch calculation is right, it passed in about 1.53 seconds. 4 85 ft coaches = 340 ft / 1.53 s = 222 ft/sec *3600/5280 = 151 mph
The portion of the NEC in NJ is rated for a top speed of 160 mph; the 150 mph for the Acela is the timetable speed
I wish NJT had Service from Philadelphia to Cape may
Also since when did the cars at 17:55 exist?
2:16 interesting Leslie horn

Fantastic history here my friend!

1:00 3:22 4:15 Love those classic 5 chime whistles
what da hell Amtrak (6:20) doing there ☠
Amtrak originally ran the Atlantic City Express (Gamblers Express) from 1989-1995. The service was fairly short lived unfortunately. Normally timetables ran from New York or Washington D.C to Atlantic City, but also saw connection service to Springfield, Harrisburg, and Richmond.
Led by two big GE AC4400CW's (my favorite diesel of SP while Daylight 4449 remains my favorite SP steamer)
0:19 Holy crap that's fast
Tbh when one doesnt have to carry fuel its possible to just not give a single damn about earodynamics and go 160mph , except if theres a rustbucket called MP54 then that ragile thing will loose its windows at that speed
@@True_NOON by that time, SEPTA was taking the first deliveries for the Penn Central (and the Reading Railroad) of the Silverliner IV electric m.u. coaches; NJ Transit doing the same for Penn Central with the similar Arrow II cars. The GE-built cars would allow the Penn Central to finally retire the old "Red Rattlers" (as the m.p.54u cars were called) and not be worried about windows being blown out by fast-moving Metroliner trains (both the original electric m.u. trains and the later AEM-7-hauled Amfleet sets).
Love the creepy music.
That brings back my childhood . Im originally from Cumberland county ! .. used to ride njt ac to 30th and back just to ride the train lol
For those that are interested, the song used on this is Professor (Instrumental Version), by Jincheng Zhang.
